Mount Chocorua is the eastern most mountain of the Sandwich Range. Named after a 1770’s Sokosis Indian Chief who, legend has it, leapt from the summit uttering a curse on the White Men of the valley. Chocorua had been pursued up the mountain after an Indian raid, and the settlers set fire to the trees and scorched the top, leaving the bare, rocky peak we now know. Mount Chocorua is one of the most photographed mountains in the world, particularly with its perfect reflection mirrored in the still waters of Lake Chocorua.
